Personally, I feel that if an "enhancement" type feature such as this doesn't work for everyone, because of their own settings/browser choices, then the pop-up dialogue dice roller enhancement could probably be toggled on/off depending on what settings/browser they have - they'd still have the original functionality - but wouldn't get access to the cooler stuff because of their choices... :-) In other words, rather than hold back the site to the lowest common denominator, build in enhancements for those who can...
LOL - of course, I also realise that hasn't been Jase's philosophy for a long time, so I'm not expecting a sudden turn-around, but I just thought I'd express my opinion on the subject.
Finally, I'm also well aware that it would be a significant programming endeavour to make a version of the dice roller available in such a way, and as such, given the limited resources and huge pile of other developments and enhancements that Jase has on his plate, I strongly suspect it would never fly! But it is nice to dream :-)

An automatic link is all javascript based, some browsers won't allow access to the clipboard, others with prompt (which would make it more complicated than a simple manual copy+paste, imho).
| stm typed: | | If I am allowed to dream, a dice-tag might be nice. Something like [roll dice="3d6+5" options="unique"]Greataxe damage[/roll] |
The problem RPoL has is that the dice roller is so damn complicated.
- dice
- reroll maxes
- reroll ones
- record each dice
- unique dice
- drop x lowest
- drop x highest
- keep x lowest
- keep x highest
- system (some negate part or all of the above, some don't)
- target number (for some systems)
- fumble range (for some systems)
- step number (for some systems)
- number of cards (for some systems)
- roll bonus (for some systems)
- secret roll (thought this would probably not apply)
Ok, I think I'm done. Possibly not though. (c;
I've had several ideas over the years on getting rolls into posts, it's just a matter of finding the time.

If I find any examples, I'll post a link...

Yes, but that's how I'm doing it now: "Roll the dice, mark the text, Ctrl+C, switch tab, Ctrl+V." I do not really see how to improve this, yet.

Now that's science fiction! Okay it, could be done with Javascript or frames or CSS, but mmmmh...
Don't get me wrong I like the general idea, I just haven't seen a convincing implementation, yet.

Nope! That would be forcing everyone to open the link in a new window. As it currently is, people can right-click and select "Open in New Window" (or similar) if they want a new window (in IE you can shift-left click). |
